For Team 4, they have decided to go for an animal shelter. Being a animal fan as well, I gave them a little hand in calling SPCA and PAWS. SPCA kindly told me that I could come anytime as volunteers were welcomed anytime (if the numbers were less). Then I called PAWS which has someone telling me in a chinese accent tone "Sorry we don't open on that day, You want, you come other day!". Hahaha.. I can imagine how stress the person was as I have heard countless of barking at the background!
But of course, Team 4 finally decided to help PAWS instead as from our research, they look like they could use extra hands :) So we went with a good heart and packs of dog food, we stood outside the gate and called out for the employee. A man came with a cigarette in his hand and then came to us telling us we had to make an appointment! We said "Sorry, but we thought you were like the NGO SPCA where you can..." and then *BOOM* The guy yelled "EH, YOU ALL COME FROM SPCA? YOU THINK WE ALL ARE WHAT? THE RUBBISH SPCA DONT WANT, THEY PUT HERE" And so, I was taken aback. Nonetheless, we spent 10 minutes comforting the man and telling the man that we are not from SPCA. He then huffed his ciggarete and said "Sorry, you all must make appointment then come other day". Then we spent another 10 more minutes "pleading" to him that we were were only free today (as a team).
Finally, he agreed. Somehow that day, patience has thought me that it does bring a good deal of benefit in the end! We were tasked to walk and bath the dogs - so damn adorable they are! As we entered the dog compound, the employee chose which dog were to be bathed and walked. It saddened a few of the team members as the dogs were fighting for that chance.
Overall, getting the PAWS experience was one to remember. The doctors there were friendly as they threw a few of us smiles here and there. And some staffs were really passionate about taking care and loving the pets. Of course there was Mr. Meanie/Grumpy but then come to think of it, you can imagine the stress he gets put under everyday and with constant barks and meows - i guess he has a lot of buttons pushed for a day :) Three things I do hope change even better would be ONE: That the employees (notice that it is not plural) would stop smoking in front of the animals and blowing it infront of their faces, TWO: PLEASE ADOPT A CUTE ANIMAL IN PAWS TODAY! :)
p/s: I did some sales talk to the family who wanted to adopt the Golden Retriever
(at the back on the right). Let's hope Goldie gets a new family! :D
